Profiting In A Recession

Marketing is without a doubt one of the single most important functions of your business. And this applies to all businesses from small startups to large established enterprises.
You can have great products, fantastic customer service, and a convenient location. But without effective marketing in place everything else is unnecessary. Good marketing attracts customers and drives sales. Even in a down economy consumers are looking for companies that offer the products or services that you offer.
But.... how hard are you making it for people to do business with you if they don't know who you are, what you offer or how to get in touch with you.
How much better off would your business be if you could double or triple the number of people that you talk with about your products or services every month? As they say sales is a numbers game, the more people you talk to the more opportunities you have to close a sale.
So if good marketing is so important to a successful enterprise then the most important thing a business owner must learn is how to be a better marketer. However for many small business owners marketing is the most ignored, least understood, and biggest headache of running a business.
Our mission is to help you become a better marketer.

STEP 1 - Understand the value in marketing and do it consistently. Since marketing is an essential function to any business it is also a lifeline to surviving a recession. Through marketing, a business can reach new customers and gain sales from previous customers. Therefore, marketing is an investment not just an expense.
Have the guts to be more aggressive during hard times. Being aggressive does not mean throwing money at every marketing outlet available. It is important to take a strategic approach and spend more but spend wisely. It does take guts to spend more when the outlook is gloomy but it has been proven to pay off.
Outsmart your competitors. You have an opportunity in a downturn to win market share from your competitors. If you pay close attention to what's happening in your target markets and how customers are reacting you can act early and often with changes in product, price, and positioning.
STEP 2 – Develop a strong flexible marketing strategy. Start small and build big. Establish a budget small enough to be affordable yet large enough to be of benefit to your business. Continuously monitor, evaluate, adjust and execute your plan.
Ok so we've established the importance of effective marketing… what is it that entices a consumer to buy? Without a doubt it’s INFORMTION! The faster we can get quality information about our products and services in front of potential customers the more likely they will act upon our offer. One of the keys to marketing success is to identify the informational needs of your customers. Most consumers in the market for a product or service if given adequate information will quickly make a purchasing decision. If the product offering, price, service, etc. match their perceived requirements there is a good chance that they will do business with you.
Another key is the type of advertising and promotion that you choose to get your message to your prospective customers. We separate this into two primary areas. First Traditional advertising which include radio, TV, yellow pages, newspapers, magazines direct-mail, telesales, etc. And non traditional advertising which is primarily centered on internet based techniques and technologies including your company web site, search engine and permission based email marketing.
In today’s fast paced society the internet and more specifically your company’s web site should be the central element of your companies marketing strategy. All other advertising and communication will reference the web site.
Your customers, suppliers and partners expect to learn about you through your web site. Consumers are more sophisticated than they were 5 or 10 years ago. Today they expect immediate access to information. Most consumers today would prefer to preview a company, its products, services and policies before picking up the phone or driving across town. And the best way to provide immediate access to that information is through your company’s web site.
The Internet delivers this information quickly and efficiently 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Allowing you to work with more potential customers in less time and with a lower overall marketing cost.
STEP 3 – Execute, validate and adjust continuously. |
